Hey all!
Huge thank you for taking the time to read this first ever blog post. It means the world, and you bet there will be plenty more to come.. so please watch this space!
Here’s a quick question for you: How would you feel if today your bank balance went to $0? Would that be absolute rock bottom for you? Would it fill you with anxiety or fear? Or would that be the point you finally felt free? If you’re in the small minority of people who actually have money saved in their bank accounts, chances are it would be devastating if tomorrow your balance went to zero. However, if you identify with the 71% of Americans who are in some sort of financial debt, it might be the best day of your life! I mean imagine it: zero mortgage, zero student loans, zero credit card bills, zero car payments, zero medical debt. This is the best day of your life! Zero never felt so good.
Growing up, I was the oldest of 11 children! (no my parents did not have television 😂) My father was the senior project manager of a custom woodworking plant, and my mother stayed at home with the kids. She believed it would be best for her kids if they were not raised within the traditional public school system, so she homeschooled all of us. This was certainly a full time job in itself! Now most of my childhood memories are amazing and I still have great relationships with my parents and all of my siblings. I certainly wouldn’t change how I was raised if I could! That being said, there was one consuming struggle which I simply couldn’t escape. Having so many children on only one income meant that my parents were always tight on finances. My family was not impoverished, but my mom and dad definitely bore a heavy weight to keep the family afloat. My dad often picking up extra work on top of his already stressful full-time job, my mom doing whatever she could to keep costs at a minimum.
This sort of an upbringing taught me how to be frugal, how to work hard, how to appreciate the small things in life and not take anything for granted. But watching the toll that it took on my parents showed me that I definitely didn’t want that future for my family. I know that for them, zero would have brought an incredible feeling of freedom. I imagine the relief my mom would have felt being able to teach her kids at home without constant judgement from others telling her how she should join the workforce and actually contribute to her family. I imagine that my dad would have a few less gray hairs if he could have stayed home from work a few extra nights a week, not having to worry about the impending possibility of losing his home to foreclosure. This is how I was raised.
That’s what this blog and community are all about. Whether you are drowning in debt or on a mountaintop with your finances, this space is for you. Because here’s the truth: Zero debt will eventually lead to zeroes piling up behind the numbers in your net worth. 💰 So let’s do the journey together.
‘Zero doesn’t have to give you a heart attack. Change your perspective today and let it be your launching pad.’
